Surrender Ambition
By Jeff Sloan
Torchlight waves pound stone walls of primordial tomb
Witness the gallantry
death
White knight on the mountain of heroes
Lightning violating an ember sky
A trap for human hands
Moulding the muck of fortune
Golden daughters dancing in the maddening light of literature
Shallow streams and card sharps lurking in the mind
A trance that is the folly of perception
A feeling of importance
Before we are dashed against the break wall of universal shores
Unfeeling is the entirety that surrounds our warm hearts
The cunning of its betrayal
Planting hope in neat rows of nightmares
Forcing labour and labeled progress
Progress!
What advancement have we truly made
Is death a little slower?
Do our dreams paint faint traces of light on the black reality of dead stars?
Fool, me!
The rats have chewed through the wires
But underneath have found no spark
No imagination for stifling eternity
Cast by an unimaginable force
Hurled through time
At atomic speed
We are but termites vomiting on the mound of our ancestry
A dark smear ruminating in thin blood and fantasy
As our terror and loneliness share portions of despair
The thinking ape
Retiring ever so sweetly to
The philosophy of ashes.

I think this unending winter is finally getting me down. Hope the spring comes soon. Wishing you peace and courage on this, another cold night.
Ever Yours'
