Romance and the North Americans
Romance and the North Americans
By Jeff Sloan
He drove a fancy auto
She wore her finest dress
She wore perfume and diamonds
He was sharply dressed
He ordered wine for both of them
She drank from a flask
She liked the smoke of whiskey fumes
He liked to dine and dash
She didn't want a dollar
He couldn't give a dime
He tried to use his wallet
She stopped him for a time
She had to find her patience
He searched for his pride
He didn't have the loneliness
She no longer had to hide
He kept her like a lioness
She really liked the whip
She roared and cursed his name again
He chewed her bottom lip
She kissed like dew on roses
He dipped her near the ground
He reached the hairline of her neck
Her world went round and round
She lay quiet beside him
He smoked his cigarette
He took all that he wanted
She took what she could get
He gave his one last breath to her
She took him for a ride
She had to have a husband
He made her his bride
He watched the clock tick slowly
She brought his world a joy
She knitted little booties
He shouted "it's a boy!"
